SECRET OF SUCCESS
Hungarians who have made it in the Netherlands
After a short welcome by HBN’s Chair Cisca Ansem, András Kocsis, Ambassador of Hungary to the Netherlands opened the programme with an inspiring story about a Hungarian marketeer who after being made redundant learnt to make chocolate and started chocoME which has become a great success. The moral of the story? If we are ready to learn something new and show perseverance, even very bad situations can be turned into success.
The lively panel discussion was moderated by Virág Füzi, psychologist and trainer focusing on intercultural adjustment. Our four excellent panellist, Tibor Bodor, Country Manager of ING Bank Hungary, Dirk Beljaarts, General Manager of Novotel Amsterdam City and Honorary Consul of Hungary to the Netherlands, Annamária Vágási, Supervisor Expert/Senior Lawyer Financial Services at the Dutch Central Bank (DNB) and Dr. Lóri Tavasszy, Professor of Freight and Logistics at the Delft University shared their personal experience and learnings about the characteristics and skills that help Hungarians become successful in Dutch business and academic life. They also talked about the challenges of adjustments to a different culture and gave some good tips on how to handle difficult situations. It was enriching and engaging to listen to their personal journey and their interesting - often funny - anecdotes about dealing with the Dutch.
This evening was another step in building a network and providing a platform for Hungarian professionals working and living in NL. Based on the overwhelmingly positive response, no doubt, more will follow.
